More on the benefit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) for kids and teens...

    Confidence

One of the most important aspects to any martial art is learning how to defend yourself.  Bullying is a problem that children should never have to endure but it is, however, all too common. BJJ will teach your child the most effective self defence techniques in the world.  A child who has experience in BJJ will learn to control an attacker and neutralise them through pressure testing their techniques in live training.  In doing so they will develop the ability to take an attacker to the ground and control them without the need to throw kicks or punches. They will also understand how to escape uncomfortable positions or avoid being pinned underneath a bigger and stronger attacker.

At BJJ School Belfast, we also go one step further and teach the children about the verbal and psychological aspects of bullying, not just the physical.  As a parent, you want your child to be confident and happy and our BJJ School will provide this, and so much more.

Children with an understanding of how to defend themselves in a safe and controlled manner will have much higher levels of confidence.

    Discipline & Respect

Today more than ever, kids live in a world of digital stimulation and are often lacking in motivation and discipline. BJJ is a technical art form that requires concentration, discipline and focus to learn and execute. These are skills your child will develop and strengthen and which carry over into all aspects of their lives, including their school work, relationships and other physical activities.

    Health and Fitness

BJJ provides a demanding workout for your child and can help them to lose weight, gain strength, develop endurance and build stamina. One of the aspects you will hear talked about often in the Jiu Jitsu community is the ‘BJJ lifestyle’. This philosophy promotes healthy eating, regular training and other physical activities, sleeping correctly, stretching and maintaining your body and trying to be the best possible version of yourself in everything you do.

    Make friends & Socialise

In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes children will meet many new friends and share common experiences like drilling techniques, playing games, and live rolling or sparring. It’s also a great way for kids to learn to communicate with other kids of all ages and develop listening skills as they learn from experienced coaches.

By training with children of different ages, it ensures a child develops the necessary social skills which will stay with them throughout their education and into their adult lives.

BJJ provides the opportunity for children to enjoy the benefits of physical exercise while at the same time learn a martial art with friends and also improve their social skills. Our kids and teens program caters for children from 6 years through to 16.

    Co-ordination

BJJ requires a child to develop a high level of physical motor skills, balance and coordination.  Essentially, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches individual movements which are tied together through multiple series or sequences. Children will learn the fundamentals of movement and these skills can help them with their BJJ and also translate into success in other sports and activities.  Through practice, children can develop their bodies and coordination, so they do not feel uncomfortable in any situation. With the development of these essential mechanics, children can perform many other body coordination related movements and enjoy success in other sports and aspects of everyday life.
